Build authentic and inclusive messaging to power your community engagement

How can our communications power systems change?

Digital communications and social media platforms are constantly evolving. We know firsthand that navigating these waters alone is impossible.

Our journey at On Canada Project over the last few years has not been easy, and we’ve learned countless lessons along the way — thanks to the power of community. We’ve also met with many community leaders who resonate deeply with the complexities and challenges of engaging communities and harnessing the power of social media to amplify our advocacy.

On Canada Project has partnered with Equal Futures Network, a CanWaCH initiative, to design a resource that helps leaders, communications practitioners, and social media managers level up their digital communications and public engagement strategies. We have working behind the scenes for over a year with a network of community leaders to build a space where we can co-imagine for the future. We can no longer do this work in silos.

A holistic learning experience awaits you.

Community conversations ground our entire learning experience.

  • We start with guided meditations and intention-setting prompts to ground. Throughout the course, we have tools to checking with our emotions and mindset.

  • We explore how to bring a Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) lens to your work by helping you unpack the identities you hold and work through these concepts as they relate to your lived experiences and your current work.

  • Short clips of conversations with community leaders who share their experiences leading this work. These conversations help catalyze your own reflections and help you complete a 5-step ‘Digital Engagement Framework’ for your organization.

  • We help you identify the potential barriers ahead as we leverage communications for systems change, and share advice from community leaders for how to support the mindsets we need on our teams.

  • Apply your learnings with two case studies that explore (1) Mapping your Personal Advocacy with Dr. Naheed Dosani and (2) Embedding Indigenous Solidarity into our Advocacy, in partnership with Future Ancestors Services

  • You will also have access to four lunch & learn sessions and a moderated Discord community over the next 6 months. We will help you connect and collaborate with other organizations to partner on campaigns and support your public engagement strategy.

Social platforms are not digital bulletin boards.

Digital community building begins with dialogue. Your learning experience will be grounded in personal narratives & lessons learned from community leaders actively doing this work and unpacking what’s happening right now.

This work requires intentional reflection across your organization. We’ve included a learning guide with questions to support your thinking and help you bring back insights to your team for strategic discussion.

Systems change requires us to understand power

This work starts with the self.  Your learning experience will start with a foundational module in Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion. This will ground your approach in understanding the intersections of your identity and how to leverage your power and privilege as you practice allyship. This is the only way we can truly stand in solidarity with marginalized communities.
