After months of protests against Iran's oppressive regime, the UN has voted to remove them from a committee on women's rights. There were 8 votes against (including Russia and China) and 16 abstentions, but this is a big move in fighting for Iranian women.

The federal government is trying to delay the MAiD expansion

Netherlands' PM Mark Rutte has issued a formal "apology" for their role in over 250 years of slavery

The slave trade contributed to 40% of Dutch economic growth during their golden age. While an apology is an important first step, it must be paired with reparations and redistribution of power - especially with this educational fund. Britian, Canada, USA, France, Portugal - time to step up.

The Dutch are also guilty of colonization of many countries - we also want to see them apologize and offer reparations for this as well.

U.S House of Representatives passes bill on Puerto Rican independence

The bill (which still needs to pass the Senate), would allow Puerto Rico to hold a referendum to decide their own independence.

* It's unclear if this bill wil go through, but it's still a big step forward in decolonizing the island.
