If no one wants to perform at your party, you either need new friends or you're doing something wrong

On May 6, 2023, the U.K. will officially crown Charles III as king and his wife, Camilla, as queen of the United Kingdom.

Charles will also become Head of the Commonwealth (which includes 56 independent countries). As king, Charles is the head of state for both the UK and the 14 Commonwealth realms which are Australia, Antigua and Barbuda, the Bahamas, Belize, Canada, Grenada, Jamaica, Papua New Guinea, St Christopher and Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, New Zealand, Solomon Islands, Tuvalu.

The last coronation was in 1953, for Queen Elizabeth II. The day after the so-called sacred ritual, there will be a big lunch and then a concert at Windsor Castle.

The BBC will broadcast the concert, and surprisingly 10,000 free tickets are to be distributed to the public.

There’s just one tiny (dare we say hilarious) snag: Apparently, his royal nepo-baby is struggling to book entertainment for his coronation.

(if you listen carefully you can hear our ancestors laughing)

Some party planning basics to consider if you notice people don't want to attend your party:

Could there be unaddressed hurt felt by your guests?

  • For ex. did you forget to return items you 'borrowed' or 'stole' from a guest?

  • Is there someone at the party that your guests feel uncomfortable around?

  • What is the theme of the party? Could it be perceived as hurtful to those attending?

  • Where is the party being hosted? Is this a problematic/inaccessible location?

  • Have you and your family ignored the basic needs and human rights of the people who made you powerful and wealthy?

More plainly, the British Royal Family is the figurehead of a force for the great evil that continues to benefit from historic and ongoing crimes against humanity.

Colonialism has a legacy of environmental degradation, the spread of disease, economic instability, ethnic rivalries, the trans-Atlantic slave trade, the genocide of indigenous peoples on turtle island, the systemic destruction of Indigenous culture, language and ways of life, and human rights violations, one that most BIPOC folk, aka the global majority, still carry to this day.

It isn't enough that artists don't want to perform for Charles because, while it is admittedly hilarious, it still isn't the British government and the monarchy owning their violence. It isn't justice. It isn't reconciliation, and it isn't reparations.

So fuck your party colonizer and #AbolishTheMonarchy
